Ceramic tiles are a very popular choice for bathroom tiles, because they are extremely versatile. But just for interest, it is worth noting that when we talk about ceramic tiles in the UK, we are probably referring to porcelain tiles. Despite the name and the fact that we associate porcelain with being very fragile, porcelain tiles are usually stronger and more durable than ceramic tiles. Ceramic is simply a name that has evolved because of the production of tiles within the ceramic industry!

Ceramic tiles have a variety of applications in the bathroom, since they can withstand the varying requirements for tiles in areas that are often wet, hot and very humid, with lots of steam. Opting for cheaper, standard tiles in a bathroom is simply not an option, since they will not last, will peel off the walls and whilst you may think that this could look somewhat shabby chic the reality is that bacteria and damp can linger behind loose tiles. This is simply not a good idea. The bathroom is the wettest area of the house so it is one room where you have to eradicate dampness in order to stop it getting hold. So forget shabby chic and instead plump for timeless elegance!

The sheer range of ceramic tiles available now means that any taste and preference can be catered for. The downside is that there are so many to choose from, that you need to give careful consideration to exactly what you are looking for, so that your bathroom achieves a coordinated and harmonious look.
